Mariah Hostetter

Mariah Hostetter is a math teacher at Green Mountain Valley School in Waitsfield, Vermont, where she teaches courses ranging from middle school math to high school calculus. She brings experience from both public and independent schools, in both Vermont and Massachusetts. Throughout her career, Mariah has worked with students with learning differences, math anxiety, demanding athletic schedules, and varied cultural and linguistic backgrounds. She is passionate about helping students build confidence and see themselves as capable mathematical thinkers. Mariah believes students learn best in classrooms grounded in clear expectations, strong relationships, thoughtful discussion, and opportunities to learn from mistakes. She hopes students come to see math as something they can engage with meaningfully—not something reserved for only a few people.
As a mixed-race educator who is white and Filipina, Mariah is attentive to the ways belonging and representation shape students’ experiences in school. She is pursuing Vermont mathematics licensure through Champlain College’s Teacher Apprenticeship Program as she continues building her long-term career in Vermont schools. She is also interested in growing into school leadership, where she hopes to support students and teachers more broadly and help create inclusive, student-centered school communities. Mariah is grateful to the Rowland Foundation for supporting her licensure journey and connecting her with a supportive community of Vermont educators.
Outside of school, Mariah enjoys spending time with her husband, two young children, and dog, and taking advantage of all that Vermont’s outdoors have to offer.
