Abel Alaniz was born and raised on the South Side of San Antonio, Texas, a predominantly working-class Hispanic neighborhood. As a first-generation college student, Abel’s dedication to music, a passion discovered early in childhood, led them to Texas State University. There, they pursued their education, earning both a Bachelor of Arts in Music and, immediately thereafter, a Master of Music in Jazz Studies. For the past decade, Abel has been a full-time musician, deeply immersed in the Central Texas music scene. This professional journey has allowed them to collaborate with some of the area’s most notable legends in jazz and salsa, honing their craft and reputation. Recently, Abel embarked on a significant new chapter, making their maiden voyage to the wonderfully lush and green state of Vermont. This move was driven by a desire to be with their delightful partner of three years, who has been an incredibly positive and supportive force in their life. Since entering middle school, it has been Abel’s earnest dream to teach music within the public education system. With this fresh start in a welcoming new state, and buoyed by the strong communal culture Vermont strives to cultivate, Abel hopes to finally achieve this long-held aspiration, bringing their musical knowledge and passion to the next generation.
