Janvier Nsengiyumva

Janvier Nsengiyumva (he/him) moved to Burlington with his family in 2008. He attended Edmunds Middle School and Burlington High School. Janvier earned a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Saint Michael’s College and a master’s degree in English from the University of Vermont. He discovered his passion for teaching while working as an after-school counselor and later as an interventionist at Gertrude Chamberlain School in South Burlington. In his role as an interventionist, he gained the confidence to pursue a career in education after noticing the positive impact he had on students’ learning and development. Currently, Janvier is pursuing a Master’s degree in Teaching at the University of Vermont, with a focus on teaching Language Arts and Social Studies at the middle level. He is also currently employed at Frederick H. Tuttle Middle School as an interventionist. In his free time, Janvier enjoys playing soccer and writing. He is the author of the memoir Eyes Guided by God.
